Five Technical Terms and Definitions Related to Music Therapy
Case Study: A process or record of research in which detailed consideration is given to the development of a particular person, group, or situation over a period of time.
Music Therapy: Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.
Cognitive Function: an intellectual process by which one becomes aware of, perceives, or comprehends ideas. It involves all aspects of perception, thinking, reasoning, and remembering.
Observational Study: draws inferences from a sample to a population where the independent variable is not under the control of the researcher.
Depression: feelings of severe despondency and dejection
Schizophrenia: a long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behavior, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation.

Life insurance: insurance that pays out a sum of money either on the death of the insured person or after a set period.
Health insurance: A type of insurance coverage that pays for medical and surgical expenses that are incurred by the insured. Health insurance can either reimburse the insured for expenses incurred from illness or injury or pay the care provider directly.
Student Debt: Money owed on a loan taken out to pay for educational expenses.
Mortgage: the charging of real (or personal) property by a debtor to a creditor as security for a debt (especially one incurred by the purchase of the property), on the condition that it shall be returned on payment of the debt within a certain period.
Tax refund: the difference between taxes paid and taxes owed.
