Exhibit: Solo "Orange Colored Sky" with the Jazz Band
Benchmark: Academics
Skills: Top peice of work for Show Choir
During my Junior year I tried out for a solo with the Jazz Band. Myself and two other girls tried out for the song. I was awarded the solo and soon began practicing for the quickly approaching concert. The song was, "Orange Colored Sky" sang by Natalie Cole. I was so excited for this opportunity but also nervous. I would be singing compoletely by myself with the Jazz Band accompanying me.
I chose this peice of work because it was extremely important to me. It required me to be vocally independent and to not give in to the pressure of my nerves. I had to perform the song to the best of my ability becasue it was what I had worked for I wasn't going to let my nerves turn my performance, which I knew could be great, into something that I was embarrased about because I got nervous and messed up.
This experience will be extremely valuable to my future young adult life because in order to major in music for college to become a music therapist I will have to sing in college. I will specialize in vocal music because right now I am not proficient enough in either guitar or paino. I will learn throughout college a number of different instruments but my specialty will always be vocal. This solo taught me how to be independent to how to perform to the best of my ability. I will have to sing hundreds of times by myself in college whether it is in performances or in lessons. In my future career I will have to use singing to help patients daily. Music is the therapy and through my voice and musical ability I will have to make my living and try to help peope overcome theire individual obstacles. I am extreemly grateful for this experience becasue not only did I have the time of my life but I also gained skills that I will use for many years to come.
