Exhibit: Cedarville University Music Showcase
Benchmark: Individuality
Skills: Motivation
The Cedarville Music Showcase is a music concert put on by high school students at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. High Schooler’s are chosen and nominated by their high school band or choir directors and then the students send in their resumes which include their past musical experiences of any kind and also their G.P.A and grade in school. Then after waiting for a few months the University chooses the candidates. If you are chosen you go to the university for 3 days where you stay in the dorms and live like a college student but also practice for those three days with kids from all over the country in either the band or the choir. You practice multiple times a day to prepare for the concert you will give at the end of the three days. I have been nominated and accepted into the showcase for the last three years beginning my sophomore year and I am a little sad that this will be my last year. However, I know that I am onto bigger and better things.
The Showcase puts you into a huge group of musicians who know exactly what they are doing. They are all the best of their class or very advanced musicians. There are choir students, band students, and orchestra students. I am extremely grateful for this experience because it helped me realize that I do have a talent in music and that I am capable of adapting to new conditions. For example, we practice for roughly two hours three times a day for three days and then in between you are allowed a lot of free time. You can go to the bookstore or you can go to the cafeteria during the hours it is open or you can go hangout with kids from other schools, kids from your school, or even the college student you are rooming with. There are plenty of things to do but it truly is a great experience. The ability to go to the showcase has pushed me to always do my best in my high school. By showing my vocal independence, being a part of the show choir, and also keeping my grades up I have tried to make myself into the ideal candidate for the showcase. It has motivated me to get out of my comfort zone and to push myself to practice and work on my music everyday if not more than once a day.
I am extremely grateful for my experiences in the showcase because they will help immensely in my young adult life and future career. In my young adult life this will help me because I will have the confidence to sing in college, or simply keep singing at my church. It has already helped me look into a colleges! Cedarville University is among my top three choices of where I want to go to school at. In my young adult life I know that I will not always be in my comfort zone whether it is through new job opportunities or through working with a new patient that I am just getting to know. The showcase has showed me that I am capable of pushing myself out of my comfort zone and being successful my future. I am very glad that I was given the opportunity to go to the Cedarville Music Showcase and I am very grateful for the memories, and skills it helped me create.
