Individuality
Exhibit: Dual Enrollment
Benchmark: Individuality
Skills: Self-Betterment
I have taken one dual enrollment course through Jackson College my junior year and now in my senior year I am taking one more. The course I took my junior year was called English 131. It was a writing class that helped you develop your writing skills in different types of papers; memoir, portrait, and narrative. Throughout the course you would write a paper and then read it to your group for peer feedback then you would turn in a revised final draft to the teacher. Now this year during my second semester I will be taking a psychology course online. I have already taken a psychology course through the school but I am taking this course in order to enhance my skills and knowledge of psychology but to also apply what I have learned at a college level.
The whole point of me taking these courses is to make myself a better student. If I am given the opportunity to gain college credit while in high school why wouldn’t I? Through this I can not only gain college credit while in high school but I will be able to make myself into a better student! I am gaining the education of a college student while simultaneously receiving my high school education. These courses allow me to better myself and push myself harder than if I were just taking high school courses.
I will have to use psychology a lot in my future career as a music therapist where I am directly dealing with the mind and how it works. Also in my young adult life this will help me as I go into college. The more I know about psychology before I get to college, where I will have to take multiple psychology courses for music therapy, the better. Also the writing course I took will be beneficial to me as a music therapist and simply in my young adult life. Throughout college I will have hundreds of papers to write and this class helped me to enhance my writing skills at a college level. As a music therapist I will constantly be creating write-ups and reports about my patients, their needs, current condition, and future issues that need to be assessed and types of treatment that need to be done. I am extremely grateful for my dual enrollment courses because they have motivated me to work harder and see if I can be successful at a college level while I am still in high school. That is an amazing opportunity and I am glad I am able to push myself to work that hard while it isn't required of me because I know that when it is required of me during college I will be able to put forth that effort.
