All throughout my high school career I have used a planner to help myself stay organized. I knew right from the beginning that in order to be successful academically I would have to be very organized. I went into high school with very high academic expectations for myself and knew I would have to face high school much differently than I had middle school.
Each year I would buy my own planner that would specifically meet my needs whether it was a simple folder in the front for extra papers that I would need to have signed by my parents or maybe it was just bigger so I had plenty of room to stay organized. I used my planner to right down when I had projects due or when I needed to study because I had a test the next day. I also used my planner not only for academics but to juggle school with working, and competing with my horses. I would have horse shows on the weekend and I would have to practice through the week to be ready. Juggling my sport with school and work was sometimes difficult but it also taught me valuable skills in balancing what I needed to do with what I wanted to do.
My high school career with all of its deadlines, tests, and regular assignments has prepared me for my future career and life as a young adult. I will have many new responsibilities just like when I first came into high school. I will have bills due each month and plenty of reports and paperwork associated with my career in music therapy with my clients. The organizational skills and discipline I learned through high school has helped to immensely prepare me for my future.
